There are various levels within the SDP data for categorising the data including; swimlanes, tasks, activities and milestones.

Swimlanes are the highest hierarchical level in SDP and cover specific aspects of the product development plan.
There are currently 12 swimlanes in SDP, including the Milestones swimlane (ignoring the special “-” swimlane used for special data types).
